Abstract: This article posits that Eugène Green’s film sets out to establish a pact with its audience similar to the one established with nature in the Renaissance. As in the episteme of the Renaissance, in Green’s films the system of signs is mediated by an element that works like the vertex of a triangular epistemological relationship: instead of replacing a reference in the scene, these special signs signal to an external relationship between the subject and the object of knowledge. This inanimate and luminous body is defined as a "sign". It is up to the viewer to unveil them, and to actively engage in their decryption. After analyzing selected scenes from Every Night (2001) we trace a parallel with photography by citing Barthes as the foundation used by Green to create the visual form we have defined as a "sign".

Key words: Eugène Green, mise en scène, epistemology, renaissance, signs.

Fecha de recepción: 10 de enero de 2016

Fecha de aceptación: 21 de abril de 2016
}, number={13}, journal={Imagofagia}, author={de Andrade Lima Faissol, Pedro}, year={2021}, month={dic.} }
