Abstract: This article is based on the convergence of two kinds of research. On the one hand, the relationship between cinematic production and historical context in the narrative and aesthetic development of cinema. On the other hand, the typical approach of Argentine university cinema of the 1960s to popular culture, in order to define the limits of what could be said (Alabarces 2008), based on Michel De Certeau’s views about the censorship popular culture was subjected to as it became the object of research. This joint perspective allows us to analyze the representation of the victims of the flood, to identify which aspects could be articulated by the hegemonic culture of the period, and to determine what could be expressed and what was to remain silenced.

Keywords: Birri, Argentinean cinematography, popular classes, 60´decade, politics.
ER -
